MAKING THE PROJECTOR THE STAR OF THE SHOW

When Christie Digital needed demo footage of its new laser projectors, it brought them to our Inverse studio in Moorooka. We filmed and edited a promotional video that gave each feature its own moment on camera.

Christie projectors light up cinema screens, event stages and classrooms around the world. Normally the projector sits at the back of the room and lights up everything else. This brief turned that around. This time the projector was the thing being lit.

GETTING UP CLOSE

Projectors are made to be forgotten about once the lights go down, but this video needed people to keep watching one from start to finish.

We shot on our 6K cameras mounted on a slider, which let us glide around the projectors, move slowly across the top of them and even get inside. The extra resolution kept every vent, lens and edge sharp, even in the closest shots.

LIGHTING IN THE DARK

Blacking out the studio meant starting from nothing. Every highlight in the video is one we put there on purpose.

We lit to the edges, so a thin line of light traces the shape of each projector while the rest falls away into shadow. Christie engineers its projectors with precision, and we lit them the same way.

EDITED ON SITE, READY FOR THE LIVE EVENT

The video was going to Christie's live virtual event, and a live event won't wait for an edit.

So we kept the whole job in-house. Our editors cut the video right there at the studio, so changes were made in the next room instead of days later. The final version was ready in time for Christie's audience to see it live.

THE RESULT?

A sleek promotional video that gives Christie's laser projectors the close-up they deserve. We shot, lit and edited it in one place, and it was ready before the event went live.

Projectors usually put on the show for everyone else. This time, one got to be the star!
