4K Live Multi-Camera Coverage for World Science Festival Brisbane
See how Inverse Imaging delivered four-camera 4K live coverage at QPAC for World Science Festival Brisbane, with switching, remote feeds and international production support.
SUMMARY
For the 2023 World Science Festival Brisbane, the Playhouse Theatre at QPAC became the stage for a series of keynote conversations, and our job was to make sure the production held up just as well off-stage as it did in the room.
We ran the live coverage with four 4K cameras, switching, playback, graphics, remote contributors, sound recording and multiple record paths all working together behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, producers in New York were watching live and feeding notes back in real time.
Brisbane on stage. New York in the loop. One live workflow joining the two.
MORE THAN FOUR CAMERAS
Four cameras might have been the visible part, but they were only one piece of the system. Behind them sat graphics, playback, remote contributors, stage laptops, key and fill, fold-back, camera returns and multiple multi-view outputs - all routed through the live switcher and matrix.
We also recorded the individual camera feeds, remote sources, graphics and program output separately, so the team wasn’t locked into the live cut once the event was over.
In other words: live when it needed to be live, flexible when it needed to be edited.
REMOTE PRODUCTION WITH NEW YORK
The entire camera setup was recorded in 4K, giving the New York team high-quality program and isolated feeds to work with once the sessions wrapped.
Those files were then sent across for post-production, while the 4K masters created a strong archive of the conversations for future use.
What made the project interesting wasn’t just the resolution. It was the distance.
The speakers were in Brisbane. The producers were in New York. The feedback was happening live.
THE RESULT?
COVID forced live production to rethink distance almost overnight. By 2023, those workarounds had become workflows.
This project was a neat example of that shift: a Brisbane stage, a New York production team, and a live setup that let both work together as though the distance barely mattered.
What once would have felt unusually ambitious had become entirely achievable...and, in many ways, a new normal for live production!
