KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • We filmed Spiderbait at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre and cut five individual song videos from the show.
  • Five cameras covered the set, from a front-of-house URSA Broadcast G2 to a gimbal-mounted A7 III in amongst the band.
  • Recording most of the show at 6K left room to reframe in the edit.

SUMMARY

FIVE CAMERAS. FIVE TRACKS. SPIDERBAIT LIVE

We filmed Spiderbait at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre and turned the show into five individual song videos for online release.

The set ran to more than twenty songs. The five picked for videos were Goin’ Off, Glockenpop, Bessy’s Last Journey, Daisy May and Riffer, so the coverage had to be ready for each of them whenever they came around.

‍

UP FRONT, OUT THE BACK AND ON THE MOVE

An URSA Broadcast G2 at front of house gave us reach from the back of the room, and a second G2 went handheld closer to the band. Two Pocket 6Ks held the frame steady, one on the wide and one locked off on the stage.

A Sony A7 III on a gimbal brought the movement, getting in amongst it in a way the fixed positions couldn’t.

‍

SHOT BIG, CUT FOR ONLINE

Most of the show was recorded at 6K. That gave the edit room to reframe and push in on a moment without losing quality, which helps a lot when five separate videos are coming out of one night.

Each track became its own finished piece, with the different angles giving viewers far more than a single view from the back of the room.

‍

THE RESULT

Five live song videos from one night at the Princess Theatre, each cut to stand on its own online.

The band did its thing. We made sure there was plenty to watch back.
